Elijah and a widow woman

1 Kings 17: 1-16 shows us a glimpse, of God sustaining the prophet Elijah, the Tishbite during a famine.  God told Elijah to go eastward and hide by the brook Cherith, before Jordan.  God told him to drink of the brook and he will send ravens to feed him there.

Elijah did as the Lord said.  He drank from the brook Cherith.  The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening.

After a while the brook dried up, because there had not been any rain in the land.    The Lord told Elijah to go to Zarephath.  He had already commanded a widow lady to sustain him.

Elijah went to Zarephath.  He saw the widow  lady collecting sticks.  He asked her  for a drink of water in a vessel.  As she left to get the water, he asked  her to bring him a  morsel of bread to eat.  She replied, she didn't have any bread made on hand. She only had a handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse.  She was gathering sticks to prepare the last meal for her and her son before they died.

Elijah said to her,  Fear not,  Go do as thou has said: but make me a little cake first, and bring it to me. Then make for you and your son. For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.

She did according to the saying of Elijah. She made bread for Elijah first. They did eat many days. The barrel of meal didn't run out and the cruse of oil didn't fail them.

When you step out in faith, GOD will bless you!
