Obedience is best

Last week an Amber Alert came across my phone. A six-year-old boy was missing. The temperatures were in the low 30's, and the child was missing overnight. We were relieved he was found safe the next day.

This story made me think about when my three-year-old daughter went missing at a friend's house. They had an unkempt inground swimming pool in their backyard. The water was so muddy you couldn't see the bottom of the pool.

My daughter was in the yard playing with the other children. I went outside to check on the children. I saw all of the children but my three-year-old. The other children didn't know where she was. So, I went into panic mode, walking around searching for her, and I ended up at that muddy swimming pool. Finally, after some time had passed, she walked by me. I asked where she had been. She said I was pottying mom.

We have a rule that you do not enter someone's house unless invited into their home. Unfortunately, my daughter didn't follow the rules. I was so relieved to see her! My heart melted as I hugged her and reminded her of the rule she had broken.

In the bible, God gives us rules. So when we break God's commands, as my daughter broke ours, It causes him heartache. My heart was breaking. I feared my daughter was at the bottom of that awful swimming pool. 1 John 1:9 says If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. I am glad our heavenly father loves and corrects us.
