They Pierced His Side
When the centurion and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
Since the Jews didn't want the bodies to remain on the cross on the sabbath day,and especially passover, they asked Pilate if their legs could be broken, then they could be taken away.
The soldiers broke the legs of the first man and the other one that was crucified with him. When they saw that Jesus was already dead they didn't brake his legs. But one of the soldiers took a spear and pierced his side, and blood and water flowed from him.
Numbers 9:12 says they should not brake a bone to observe the ordinance of passover. The soldiers didn't brake the legs of Jesus.
Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
