Calming Compassion
August 1, 2014 was a busy time for me. My mother had recently had her second hip replacement surgery. I had been taking meals to a lady twice a week. This dear lady had fallen several times because her legs were numb. She lived alone and was told by her doctor to only use a wheelchair to get around.
This day I decided to cook enough food for my parents, the lady, and us. The meals needed to be ready and delivered to each place by noon. I planned the menu. Okra and squash was on the list. I picked them fresh from the garden. I got back just in time for the cooking to begin.
I opened the back door and went into panic mode. A blue tailed lizard was crawling across the floor in our back room. I got the broom and dust pan. Before I could get him, he went under our chest freezer. I lost sight of him. I was frantic wanting that lizard out of the house. A blue tailed lizard is posionous to a cat. I needed to start cooking, but the panic mode would not go away. I paced back and forth looking for the lizard.
Finally I prayed. Lord, I have a blue tailed lizard in my house. I can't get him out and I do not want him here. I have heard they are posionous and they look just like a snake to me. I need to cook a meal for a lady. I am in total panic mode and can't calm down in order to cook. Please dear Lord calm me down so I can cook this meal and give you honor and glory! Thank you Jesus, in you precious name I pray, Amen!!
A calming peace came over me. I started cooking the meal. After a while I thought again about the lizard. I went to the room where I last saw him. He was lying on the floor beside the back door. The sunlight was peeping through the blinds, shining on him. I opened the door and swept him outside with the broom.
I finished cooking the meal. The meals were packed and delivered to both locations by 12:10. Praise the Lord for his calming mercy and for answered prayer.
