Jesus Triumphant Entry
Jesus told two of his disciples to go into the village and find a colt tied, which no man had sat upon. Untie the colt and bring him back to me If anyone asks why you are taking the colt, tell them the Lord is in need of him. The disciples returned with the colt and his mother. They laid their garments on the colt and Jesus sat upon him. Others laid branches from tthe trees and garments before him along the road. Jesus rode the colt from the Mt. of Olives to Jerusalem with the people rejoicing along the way. The multitudes that followed Jesus cried saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.
The triumphant entry of Jesus is significant for 4 reasons. This was the final and official presentation of Jesus to Israel as their Messiah. Many people recognized this as seen in their shouts of praise. By riding a colt, Jesus presented Himself as a King. (Zechariah 9:9) This presentation of Jesus was the exact fulfillment of prophecy; this prophecy the Israelites would have been very familiar with. This should have confirmed without any doubt that Jesus was (and is) the Messiah.
The account of Jesus triumphant entry into Jerusalem is in all 4 gospels. Matthew 21:1-11, Mark 11:1-11, Luke 19:28-40 and John 12:12-19.
