The Will of the Father

   What a difference a few days make.  The Jews went from praising Jesus one day to saying Crucify him! Crucify him! a few days later. 

   Pilate gave into the crowd. He released Barabbas, a robber and murderer to the people. and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.  They stripped Jesus, and put on him a scarlet robe. They plaited a crown of thorns and put it upon his head, and placed a reed in his right hand. They bowed their knees before him, and mocked him, saying Hail, King of the Jews! They spit upon him and took the reed and smote him on the head. They took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him. 

    He bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of the skull, which in Hebrew is called Golgotha. Where they crucified him and two others on either side of him with him in the middle.  They wrote his accusation, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS, and placed it above his head.   Jesus said, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.  

    Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the Earth unto the ninth hour.  And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAST THOU FORSAKEN ME?

    Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and  his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple standing nearby, whom he loved, he said unto his mother. Woman behold thy son! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! From that hour that disciple took her into his own home.  

  When Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, FATHER, INTO THY HANDS I COMMEND MY SPIRIT: and having said thus he gave up the ghost.  And behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom and the earth did quake and the rocks rent; 

    Jesus the perfect passover Lamb of God laid down his life and took on the sins of the world to save mankind.  He did the will of the father. 

    While on the cross, Jesus asked the Father to forgive them because they didn't know what they were doing. Jesus showed his love toward his mother by asking a disciple to take care of her.
